Three Capes Scenic Route in Tillamook

The Three Capes Scenic Loop begins in downtown Tillamook and is 70 miles long, according to Visit Tillamook Coast, the county's visitor organization. The three capes are Cape Meares, Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda.

What Oregon State Parks says about the three stops

  • Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint has a historic lighthouse, hiking trails and the Octopus Tree, an unusually shaped Sitka spruce.
  • Cape Lookout State Park sits on a sand spit between Netarts Bay and the ocean, with the Cape Trail leading to the tip of the cape.
  • Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area is a sandstone headland just north of Pacific City, known for wave-sculpted cliffs.

Visit Tillamook Coast also mentions Bayocean Spit, Oceanside, Netarts Bay (where clamming needs an Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife license) and Bob Straub State Park in Pacific City.

Before you drive it

Closures and conditions change. When we checked, Oregon State Parks listed a closure at Cape Lookout for park improvements and no access to Cape Meares by Bayocean Road. Read each park's page, and check ODOT TripCheck for roads. Visit Tillamook Coast suggests a clear day for the farthest views.
