About Tillamook

Tillamook is the county seat of Tillamook County, on the southeast end of Tillamook Bay on the north Oregon coast. Wikipedia says it was voted county seat in 1873 and incorporated as a city in 1891. It has one of the lowest seasonal-home shares on the coast, so it is mostly a year-round working town.

A plain reading

Tillamook is younger than the other north coast towns in our series, with a median age of 37 and fewer than one resident in six aged 65 or over. Most households rent. The median home value is just under $300,000, and about half of owner-occupied homes are valued at $300,000 or more. The seasonal-home count is tiny, and because it is so small its margin of error is larger than the estimate itself.

Small-town estimates are less precise than big-city ones. Treat the figures as a good guide to the size and shape of the town, not as exact counts.

How we got these numbers

  • Households, tenure, income, home value, age, home-value brackets and seasonal housing come from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates for 2020-2024, tables B01003, B11001, B25003, B19013, B25077, B01002, B25075 and B25004, read through Census Reporter for the Tillamook city boundary. Dollars are 2024 inflation-adjusted ACS dollars.
  • The 2020 population is the 2020 Census count. The 2025 figure is the certified estimate from Portland State University's Population Research Center, taken from the League of Oregon Cities listing of the certified estimates.
  • Business counts are from Census ZIP Code Business Patterns 2023. They are by ZIP code, not by city limit, and they leave out businesses with no paid employees.
